This spring, WordPop is mentoring a young professional through PRSA San Diego’s New Professionals Mentor Program. We’ve been paired with the fabulous Sienna Tomko. Sienna is a senior at Ohio University and plans to move to San Diego and pursue a career in public relations upon graduating. To welcome Sienna to the program, we’ve invited her to share a little about herself. With that, meet Sienna!

Hi there! I’m an Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) student by day, aspiring public relations/marketing pro by night. I’m interested in it all: public relations, marketing, advertising, event planning, design, social media and B2B. I thrive in a creative, organized and hard working environment where ideas are flowing and collaboration is key. My competitive attitude and momentum keep me busy. I display an in-the-know mindset, while always expressing myself in a stylish manner.

I began in the public relations industry during a high school mentorship with CMP Communications in Independence, Ohio. Since then, I’ve held various positions with a variety of companies: The Cleveland Clinic, Children’s National Medical Center, American Diabetes Association, RecentGrad.net, Ohio University Lifelong & Distance Learning department, Ohio University’s McClure School of Information & Telecommunication Systems and JMI Reports, Inc.

Cleveland, Ohio has been my home for the past 22 years, but I’m eager to start the next chapter of my life upon graduation in May. My heart is set on San Diego; however, I’m willing to venture anywhere with great food, young people and a story to tell. I’m ready for a change, and willing to step outside of my comfort zone. I personally believe that life isn’t about finding yourself; it’s about creating yourself.

Outside of school, I enjoy cooking (and blogging about it), Grey’s Anatomy and long walks on the beach (literally). My family keeps me grounded, and my puppy puts a smile on my face. Go Bobcats!
