Which social media platforms do you prioritize for your business?

We’re not mind readers but we bet you answered with these top two: Facebook and Instagram. Worldwide, Facebook and Instagram are the most popular social media platforms among PR professionals, according to Cision’s 2021 Global Communications Report.

So which platform takes third place? That would be Linkedin. It made a jump to pass Twitter between 2019 and 2021 and now also ranks above YouTube.

For businesses looking to connect with potential clients or grow their professional network, Linkedin is sometimes an overlooked tool. It can be used to build your brand and showcase expertise your business has to offer.

To maximize your potential on LinkedIn, here are a few of our suggestions:

Post Consistently – Linkedin recommends posting one to two times per day (but no more than five…phew! Who has time for that? ;)).

Know your audience – Are you speaking to professionals in your own niche? To clients? Ensure your content speaks to the audience you want to focus on.

Post Engaging, Relevant, Shareable Content – Think about what value your content provides to your audience. Post content related to trending topics, current events and using relevant hashtags (hint: check out Linkedin news articles in the top right corner of the Linkedin homepage). Make it shareable so your connections will be motivated to share with their own network.

Include Personal Stories and Action Steps – Use personal experiences, especially ones from a professional setting, to illustrate and provide advice. Offer action steps to your audience for their lives and careers.

Consider Adding Visuals – Using photos or videos can help encourage engagement. In fact, according to Linkedin, “Video is five times more likely to drive engagement than other media types.”

Post a Variety of Content – Linkedin recommends around three industry-related posts per week, two posts relating to happy moments or accomplishments and only one post selling your product or service to our audience.

Review and Respond to Mentions – Don’t let your notifications go unanswered! Liking and responding to comments within the first hour of your post being live is critical. You can also reshare relevant content that you have been mentioned in.

Cross-promote Your Linkedin – Around once a week promote your profile on other social media platforms and invite your followers to connect with you.

If this all seems a little daunting – we totally get it! Our team provides Linkedin audits to improve individual profiles and company pages, ghostwrites articles, posts content and more!
